West Bengal Migrant Workers’ Welfare Scheme: Death Assistance is a social welfare scheme by the West Bengal Migrant Workers’ Welfare Board, Labour Dept., Government of West Bengal, that provides one-time assistance to the nominee in case of natural or accidental death of the migrant worker.
West Bengal Migrant Workers’ Welfare Scheme: Death Assistance - Introduction
The scheme is a social welfare scheme implemented by the West Bengal Migrant Workers’ Welfare Board, Labour Department, Government of West Bengal on 25th April, 2023. Under this scheme, financial assistance is provided to the nominee in case of natural death or accidental death of the registered migrant worker.
Benefits
- ₹ 50,000/- (Rupees Fifty Thousand) only, in case of normal death.
- ₹ 2,00,000/- (Rupees Two Lakhs) only, for accidental death.
Eligibility
- The applicant must be a resident of West Bengal.
- The applicant’s age should be between 18 and 60 years.
- The applicant must ordinarily be a worker who is employed or likely to be employed in any state or union territory other than West Bengal, or outside India.
- The beneficiary should be a nominee, i.e., a person nominated by the registered migrant worker from his/her family.
- The migrant worker should have lost his/her life due to natural or accidental death.
Exclusions
No claim shall be admissible to the beneficiary if he/she is in receipt of any other financial assistance of similar nature from the Government of West Bengal.
Application Process
Download and install the KARMASATHI (PARIJAYEE SHRAMIK) app on an Android phone from the Google Play Store.
- Choose a language (English, Bengali, Hindi) and tap Next to proceed.
- Select the option Migrant Worker and tap Go.
- A screen will appear to enter your mobile number or MWIN. For new registrations, enter your mobile number to receive an OTP.
- Provide your information in the Basic Details, Address Details, and Employment Details sections, then tap Confirm Submit.
- A provisional MWIN will be generated and an SMS will be sent to your mobile number.
- To obtain a permanent MWIN, tap the menu item “Incomplete Application” and complete the application by providing additional information such as bank account details, ration card, and nominee information.
- Upload the mandatory documents and submit to complete the registration process.
Open the KARMASATHI (PARIJAYEE SHRAMIK) app and log in using the OTP.
To receive welfare assistance, tap the Services menu.
Provide claim details and upload the required documents for the scheme, then submit to complete the application.
Migrant workers can search their details in the portal by providing their Migrant Worker Identification Number (MWIN), registered mobile number, or Aadhar number.
Renewal of registration as a beneficiary: A migrant worker registered as a beneficiary must renew their registration annually through the portal.
Definitions
Migrant Worker means a person of the age between 18 and 60 years who is, by origin, a resident of West Bengal and employed in a remunerated activity in any State or Union Territory in India other than West Bengal.
