The "Sports Scholarship" scheme implemented by the Department of Welfare, Government of Jharkhand, aims to encourage sports participation and promote excellence among Scheduled Tribe students. The scheme provides scholarships, incentives, and sports materials to student-athletes. The District Welfare Office coordinates with local administrations to implement the scheme.
Benefits
- ₹2,500/- per year for middle and high school students.
- ₹3,000/- per year for college-level athletes.
- ₹10,000/- for athletes achieving recognition at the national or international level.
- Daily allowance of ₹200/- and second-class rail fare for national/state-level participants.
- Hockey sticks, badminton rackets, tennis rackets, bows, arrows, tracksuits, shoes, socks, and carrying bags.
- Certificates and prizes for top performers in various categories.
NOTE: Support for Below Poverty Line (BPL) Athletes priority access to sports materials and financial assistance.
Eligibility
- The applicant must be a Scheduled Tribe student and a resident of Jharkhand.
- The applicant must be studying in a middle school, high school, or college.
- The applicant must actively participate in state or national-level sports competitions.
- The athletes achieving national-level recognition are eligible.
- The applicant belongs to families below the poverty line are eligible.
Application Process
- Step 1: The interested applicant should visit (during office hours) the District Welfare Office and request a hard copy of the prescribed format of the application form from the staff exclusively entrusted to issue and collect filled-in applications.
- Step 2: In the application form, fill in all the mandatory fields, and attach copies of all the mandatory documents (self-attest, if required).
- Step 3: Submit the duly filled and signed application form along with the documents to the District Welfare Office in consultation with school or college authorities.
- Step 4: Request a receipt or acknowledgment from the concerned authority to whom the application has been submitted. Ensure that the receipt contains essential details such as the date and time of submission, and a unique identification number (if applicable).
