The scheme Sikkim Grant of Award To Transgender (SGATT) was launched in 2013 by the Department of Women & Child Welfare, Govt. of Sikkim. Under this scheme, the state government provides financial assistance to transgender belonging to a household of the Below Poverty Line category.

Sikkim Grant Of Award To Transgender - Introduction

The scheme “Sikkim Grant of Award To Transgender (SGATT)” was launched in 2013 by the Department of Women & Child Welfare, Government of Sikkim. Under this scheme, the state government provides financial assistance to transgender individuals belonging to households below the poverty line. The scheme helps transgender persons who have no regular source of income, no financial support from family members, and are non-recipients of any other pension from the State Government, Central Government, or any other sources.

Benefits

  • A monthly amount of ₹12,000/- to transgender individuals aged 0-6 years.
  • 100% free education up to graduation level.
  • A monthly amount of ₹500/- to be given if they remain unemployed after obtaining the required educational or technical qualification.

Eligibility

  • The applicant should be a resident of the state of Sikkim.
  • The applicant should be a transgender person.
  • The applicant should be from a Below Poverty Line (BPL) family.
  • The applicant should not receive salary, pension, or family pension from the Central Government or other State Governments.
  • The applicant should have opened a bank account under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana.

Note 01: The payment of a grant to the transgender individual shall cease from the date of the beneficiary's death. The amount due up to the month of death shall be paid to the immediate family members of the beneficiary, and the passbook shall be surrendered to the Department.

Note 02: In case of permanent migration of the beneficiary outside Sikkim, the payment of the grant shall cease from the date of migration. In such an event, the family or Panchayat of the beneficiary shall surrender the passbook to the Department.

Application Process

  • Step 01: Visit the official website: pensionscheme.sikkim.gov.in
  • Step 02: Click “Create Account”. On the registration page, fill in the mandatory details (Username, Gender, First Name, Last Name, Email, Mobile Number, and Password). Fill in the Captcha Code and click “Register”. The login credentials will be sent to your registered Email ID / Mobile Number.
  • Step 01: Visit the official website: pensionscheme.sikkim.gov.in
  • Step 02: Click “Apply now” and login.
  • Step 03: On the application page, fill in all the mandatory fields and upload the required documents in the appropriate file size and file type. Upon successful submission of the application, a system-generated application number will be provided as acknowledgment. Please keep it safe for future reference.

The status, whether approval or rejection, will be conveyed to the applicant via SMS.
