The scheme "Accident Insurance Scheme", a sub-component of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, is implemented by the Department of Fisheries, Government of Uttarakhand. The scheme aims to provide financial security to fish farmers in the event of accidental death, permanent disability, or hospitalization. Under this scheme, insurance coverage includes ₹5,00,000/- for death or total permanent disability, ₹2,50,000/- for partial disability, and ₹50,000/- for hospitalization. Fish farmers are not required to pay any insurance premium; the entire premium is borne by the department.

Eligibility

General Eligibility:

  • The applicant should be a permanent resident of Uttarakhand.
  • The applicant should be engaged in fish production or fishing as a profession.
  • The applicant should belong to any caste category, including General, Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Other Backward Class (OBC), or woman.
  • The applicant’s age should be between 18 and 70 years at the time of enrollment.

Eligibility for Nominee:

  • The applicant should be a nominee of the deceased person.
  • The individual should have died or become permanently disabled due to the accident.

Eligibility for Partially Disabled Person:

  • The applicant should be partially disabled (such as loss of limbs, fingers, or partial loss of vision/hearing/speech) due to an accident.

Application Process

  • Step 1: The interested applicant/nominee should contact (during office hours) the field personnel of the Fisheries Department and request a hard copy of the prescribed format of the application form from the staff exclusively entrusted to issue and collect filled-in applications.
  • Step 2: In the application form, fill in all the mandatory fields and attach copies of all the mandatory documents (self-attest, if required).
  • Step 3: Submit the duly filled and signed application form along with the documents to the field personnel of the Fisheries Department.
  • Step 1: The Fisheries Department completes the enrollment and issues an insurance certificate to the beneficiary.
  • Step 1: In case of an accident, death, or hospitalization, the beneficiary's family must inform the local fisheries officer immediately.
  • Step 2: The family then submits a claim form along with relevant supporting documents (e.g., medical or death certificate, insurance certificate, etc.).
  • Step 3: Upon successful verification, the insurance claim is processed and disbursed to the nominee’s or beneficiary’s account.
