The Jharkhand State Backward Classes Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme was launched by the Department of Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, Minorities and Backward Classes Welfare, Government of Jharkhand. The scheme aims to enhance educational opportunities and participation among students belonging to backward classes in Jharkhand. It provides financial assistance to reduce dropout rates among students in classes 1 to 10 and promote equality in education.

NOTE:
- Direct transfer of scholarships to beneficiaries’ bank accounts via PFMS.
- Residential students receive higher scholarship amounts compared to non-residential students.
- Class 9th and 10th scholarships are funded jointly by the state (40%) and central (60%) governments.
Eligibility
- The applicant, parents, or guardians should be a native of Jharkhand.
- The applicant should be a student.
- The applicant must belong to the Other Backward Classes category.
- The applicant must be enrolled in a state government-recognized school.
- There is no income limit for students from Class 1 to 8.
- The applicant’s annual family income should not exceed ₹2,50,000 for Class 9 and 10.
Application Process
- Ensure all required documents are ready, including Aadhaar, caste certificate, income certificate (if applicable), and Aadhaar-linked bank account details.
- Submit the required documents and information to the school principal for entry into the e-Kalyan portal.
- Ensure Aadhaar authentication is completed to generate a unique ID for the application.
- Principals or headmasters (Institute Nodal Officers) register schools using their UDISE code on the e-Kalyan portal.
- The school head enters eligible students’ details (name, DOB, Aadhaar).
- New students must be registered immediately upon enrollment.
- A unique ID is generated post-verification and is valid for subsequent years.
- Applications are verified by District Nodal Officers (DNOs) and forwarded to the District Level Approval Committee.
- Approved applications are sent to the State Nodal Officer (SNO) for integration and payment processing.
- Payments are made through the Aadhaar Payment Bridge System (APBS) or PFMS/NACH for non-linked accounts.
