Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Fellowship (PhD) by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, Government of India aims to promote research aptitude and provide financial assistance to eligible PhD students in science and technology fields.

Through this scheme, monetary benefits are provided to research scholars pursuing doctoral studies in recognized universities or institutions. The scheme is implemented by the CSIR Human Resource Development Group (HRDG). The fellowship assists scholars by covering their monthly expenses and encouraging full-time research. The university must verify the applicant's documents and process the application online. Based on verification and fund availability, the approved amount is disbursed directly to the student’s bank account.

  • The applicant's documents must be verified by the university and forwarded to the Student Welfare Department.

Exclusions

Application Process

  • Step 1: The applicant must first receive the CSIR award letter after qualifying the CSIR-NET.
  • Step 2: The applicant should take admission into a recognized PhD program in an eligible university or institution.
  • Step 3: The university initiates the application process by uploading the student’s documents online.
  • Step 4: The uploaded documents are verified by the university and authenticated by the Student Welfare Department.
  • Step 5: Upon successful verification, the university forwards the application to CSIR-HRDG.
  • Step 6: Subject to fund availability, CSIR disburses the monthly fellowship directly to the applicant's bank account.
