The scheme aims to promote self-employment among marginalized communities through sustainable sheep rearing practices. Through this scheme, a sheep-rearing unit consisting of 10 female sheep and 1 male sheep (aged between 10 to 14 months) is provided to eligible beneficiaries.
The scheme for the “Establishment of Entrepreneurs for Breed Development in the Small Ruminant Sector (Sheep and Goat Farming)” falls under the Sub-mission on Breed Development of Livestock and Poultry. The Entrepreneurs / Eligible Entities can establish sheep and goat breeding unit.
Under the Establishment of Regional Semen Production Laboratory and Semen Bank for Sheep and Goat Scheme, the Central Government will provide assistance for the establishment of frozen semen production laboratories for goats and liquid semen production laboratories for sheep at the regional level.
“Special Livestock Insurance Scheme” is a welfare initiative targeting SC families engaged in livestock rearing. The scheme provides free insurance for livestock, enhancing the economic security of resource-poor SC families. The scheme covers milch animals, sheep, goats, pigs, camels, etc;
“Establishment of State Semen Bank (Genetic Improvement of Sheep and Goat breeds)” aims at the genetic improvement of sheep/goat breeds through selective breeding by propagation of superior male germplasm through artificial insemination.
